Rhys is an experienced project manager with a background in technical theatre, automation, and large-scale systems integration. He was drawn to the world of theatre by the magic of live performance and a fascination with how technical effects come together behind the scenes. With an engineering mindset, he has developed a deep understanding of theatre systems and technical design, delivering complex stage engineering projects at some of the world’s leading cultural institutions.

His career began in London’s theatre scene after studying Stage Management & Technical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). He worked at venues including Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Opera House before becoming Technical Manager at The Yard Theatre, where he played a key role in transforming the pop-up venue into a permanent cultural space while overseeing its ambitious programme of productions.

Rhys went on to join TAIT in 2017, where he worked across concept design and project management, delivering major installations including the Bridge Theatre and a large-scale automation upgrade at the Royal Opera House. He also managed complex technical systems on multiple cruise liners, and gained extensive experience in systems integration, automation, and major construction projects, including the recently completed Sadler’s Wells East building in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Now part of the Wonder Works team, Rhys was drawn to the company’s collaborative approach and hands-on way of working. Outside of work, he has a background in ballroom, Latin, and modern jive dance, giving him a unique insight into movement on stage. When he’s not in the theatre, he’s likely to be found rock climbing, playing board games and spending time with his young family.
