Dave Williams has spent over 25 years managing the technical delivery of live productions across all branches of the industry. From ambitious art installations and immersive shows to theatre tours and Ceremonies, Dave’s breadth of experience makes him skilled at delivering award-winning work across the world.
He started in the London’s West End theatre industry touring with the Royal Shakespeare Company and then as Head of Stage at both the Young Vic and the Theatre Royal Stratford. A drive for bigger challenges led him into large-scale events and eventually into the world of big budget permanent shows, spending several years working in the Asian market delivering contemporary circus shows designed by Mark Fisher.
Dave has always gravitated towards the challenges posed by large scale, technically complex productions. Over the years he has become an expert at managing the international and multi-disciplinary teams needed to deliver such events on the world stage. He has been involved in 13 Olympic Ceremonies including London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 and has led the technical delivery for the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, the 2018 Para Asian Games and, the 2019 Pan American and ParaPan Games, and the 2021 PON XX Games.
More recently as Technical Director for SEE Monster (2021), Dave was responsible for transforming a retired rig from the North Sea into one of the UK’s largest public art installations. In the same year he also helped deliver Frameless – the largest permanent multi-sensory experience in the UK.
Whether it’s technical design, CAD draughting, pre-production consultancy or project management, Dave has been working with Wonder Works on and off since 2014. Now as a permanent member of the team, he is responsible for delivering a diverse range of events alongside bespoke design and fabrication services to the live events industry through WowAxis. When he’s not working Dave enjoys climbing, skiing and spending time with his family.
